Part two..

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

As if being “let go” from my job, no, the career I believed was going to be my life’s work was bad enough, little did I know that people I thought loved me would be so vindictive. But that is what I was to learn over the coming month’s, to start with in a long line of evil things that would be done I found that my life blood….my pay would be totally screwed.

I’d left the office on the Thursday afternoon and told in what I was to learn in a believably false way that I should not worry about clearing my office now but to leave it until Monday.

The weekend for me was terrible, I felt sick to the stomach and so stressed, MS is a hideous disease in itself and “stress” is one of the worst things for anyone suffering from it. My mind was scrambled, I couldn’t think clearly and my body became so weak I found it hard to stand let alone walk.

I couldn’t keep any food down, I became weaker and weaker .

Anyway Monday morning came after a sickening weekend full of vomit, panic and concern. Going into the office I said my goodbye’s to my good friend Shari who I love like a daughter, then sat with the office manager, it sickens me to think of this so called “friend” so I’m not even going to use her name.

I sat at the OM’s desk while she justified the actions of Dr H and how he’d supposedly cried about making the decision to let me go. The paycheque was wrong so she attempted to correct it and assured me I’d have the correct amount in the mail before the end of the week.

What shocked and sickened me was that after three and a half years of dedicated service they paid me for the three weeks in the month I’d worked and the last week of the month that’s it, no severance pay. It was obvious they they didn’t give a damn about me and how I would survive.

So much for valuing my service and dedication, I think it was one of the worst moments of my life, losing the job I truly believed was a lifelong passion, being “dumped” with enough to pay my rent and pay my immediate bills for that month alone. Being 5000 miles from my family and being completely alone, I felt totally isolated….

On the way home I called in to see my good friend Jim, I explained what happened and poured my heart out. Jim was a vietnam vet and was a good listener and was able to put my mind at rest. Jim had been through so much in his life that he had a way of putting things into perspective. Over the next 18 months, Jim was more of a friend than anyone had ever been, he and his Thai wife Nidnoy were a Godsend to me.

A few day’s later in the cold light of day, actually is was a typically beautiful Colorado day in May, while sitting in their garden Jim suggested I write an e-book about what I’d learned while working for Dr. H.

This made a lot of sense to me, after all, I knew a great deal about his work and this way I’d kill two birds with one stone. I could help others and selling the book would earn money…yay.

Over the coming weeks I spent as much time as I could writing, finding the words was not difficult for me, after all, I’d talked with more than 17,000 people during my time with Huggins. The problem was typing, I’d taught myself to type properly, but having MS made it difficult, the dexterity and coordination in my hands was getting worse by the day and after an hour or two of typing, my hands became very tired and of course the stress I was feeling exacerbated this.

But a month later I’d completed my first book, an e-book, although it was only 43 pages it still felt good to be a writer. While I was doing this I also created a website or blog if you will. The names for blog and book were yet to be decided. I’d talked with Jim but couldn’t find the right names so I spent some time with an ex work colleague and good friend Carolyn. She now worked for Dr. Blanche Grube who also owned Biocomp Labs here in Colorado Springs as well as her dental practice in Scranton, PA.

I decided the book  would be called “Life after Huggins” a catchy name I thought and I’d promote it on my blog which was Optimal Nutritions.

Tomorrow I’ll explain why both these were to change and how my ex employer and his evil Rottweiler with lipstick otherwise known as the OM continued on their quest to ruin my life..

Ignominiously dumped

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

Ive thought about writing this since 2011, I’ve struggled mentally about whether this is the right thing to do, but at the end of the day releasing this pent up emotion , is I believe better for me so here goes.

When working for Dr. Huggins I believed I was doing a good job, I think I was liked by  Doc, the staff, the alliance of Huggins trained dentists and his clients. I thought I had a great relationship both as colleagues and friends with the people I’d worked with for many years. So you can imagine my shock and surprise on April 22nd 2011 when I was given some bad new’s.

Before I go into that let me explain some thing’s that justified the shock I was about to feel. In the three and a half years I’d been there I’d become the biggest producer doc had ever had. I’d sent more people to his clinic’s than any previous employee. I’d generated more revenue in my first full year than anyone else in their first years so I was confident in my role.

When I first started as Client Service Director in November 2007, I read everything I could that doc had written, I studied Weston A Price the grand master in the field. I sat in on many of doc’s consultations to learn all I could about this amazing man. Doc would tell how pleased he was  via his spinaround signal and then patting me on the back. Very rarely would he verbally compliment anyone.

I remember a conversation about his intended growth of the company, he’d acknowledged my abilities and ever growing understanding of his work. He insisted I keep notes which I did so I could train new members of my sales team. and educate them in his special work to the standards he demanded.

Anyone that know’s the infamous Dr. Huggins will know that his work has been truly ground breaking, and because of this  has made enemies of the uninformed dental profession. Those dentists and assistants that have been brainwashed by the American Dental Association (ADA) all mistakenly despise the man. But there is no doubt of his dedication, his research and subsequent teachings have saved lives and improved the lives of thousands maybe even hundreds of thousands of lives.

I imagine that most know him to be a dedicated and single minded professional, but I doubt they know that what initially drove and inspired the man 30 years, and that was his determination to help others  had been replaced by his ego which is bigger than Texas.

Ok so back to that horrible day, I’d had to go to “Brakes Plus” to have the brakes done on my truck which I’m sure you can imagine is not cheap when you drive a Dodge Ram with a hemi engine. I got back into my office and started to catch up with the many calls I’d missed. The office manager who I’d always gotten on with really well came into my office and took a seat, she was crying so I stopped what I was doing and asked what was wrong. She looked at me and asked if we could go to her office, I followed her down the hall and sat at her desk waiting for her to explain.

She took a deep breath and said she was sorry, I noticed a cheque in front of her but still didn’t  “click” what was happening. Then I heard “we have to let you go”…….

I thought”no way” am I losing my job, it can’t possibly be happening to me, after all, my friend had assured me that she had my back and would let me know if anything like this was on the cards. But she had obviously known for at least 24 hrs and possibly a lot longer, so much for “I’ve got your back”.

I left the office at 3.30 and drove home thinking what the heck am I going to do now, I was 55 years old and had MS, there was 5 hopes of me getting a job I could do now, envelope, periscope, antelope, bob hope and No Hope.

Getting home in the middle of the afternoon felt strange to me, I had the most horrible feeling in my gut, I felt empty as if I’d just lost everything. I’d put more into that job than to anything I’d done before. I’d worked longer hours (unpaid) and dedicated myself to perpetuating his work long after he’d gone. In my first full year I actually worked an additional 400 hours to help those clients that needed it. I didn’t want or ask for payment for this, I felt truly fulfilled knowing I was helping others that genuinely needed it.

I was getting fired because my employer’s ego was bruised as more and more clients were asking to talk with Dr Stefan…. I always informed people I wasn’t a doctor, but several insisted asking for me that way. It seemed that doc had underestimated my ability to learn when he suggested I read and study his work. I’m sure someone asking doc or the office manager about any of this then they’ll get a different story but I assure you this is the truth.

I’ll continue this tomorrow….

Walk the walk..

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

The frustrating part of being me is that deep down I am Stefan the guy who’s been to more than 20 countries around the world, done sport’s that most others will say is on their bucket list but in reality will never do. I was the Client service director for the world leading authority on biological dentistry and mercury toxicity…..but, but 99% of the time my body doesn’t give a crap about been there done that…

Instead it reacts to a so called incurable life threatening disease by overpowering my mind and limiting my physical abilities. However being the son of an amazing German born woman that came through the war, 7 kids and 3 husbands ir sort of makes me a tad arrogant when it comes to what I’m supposed to be. I see myself as a man that will one day skydive again, will run again and will hike again in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

So yes it is a little frustrating in some ways being physically restricted….temporarily. I know I sometimes ignore my own advice, advice I’ve shared with thousands of others, people that respected who and what I was and knew. People, not just patients and clients but medical professionals as well.

So I’ll persevere down this road and stop being defensive and frustrated and just get on with the task of getting better.

The ignoring of my knowledge is ridiculous but understandable in some ways. Prior to coming back to England, although it was very limiting financially and worrying for the same reason. I maintained the limiting of bad foods even though I wasn’t able to have “treats” such as nicer gluten free foods.

Since I’ve been back and with my disability benefits I’ve been able to buy food, not just gluten free staples but also some that I should really avoid.

That all changes today as I have to “walk, not just talk the talk”, I’m back on to one day a week to fast for 24hrs as per Patricia Bragg who I was blessed to know several years ago.

Subtle improvements..

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

The adjustments I make weekly or monthly are all based on my feelings and physical results after a period of time after including a supplement or specific action or protocol into my daily routine. As I’ve said before I’m not able to have a blood test done inexpensively as I could when working with Dr.Huggins, however, I feel reasonably confident in my experience and judgement.

The detox baths/soaks with either magnesium chloride or himalayan crystal salts are certainly having a positive effect. The one drawback I’m noticing at this time appears to be influenced by the temperature of the water. Too hot water tends to weaken me for several hours but fortunately it doesn’t appear to have a lasting effect. So when that happens I normally find that plenty of water and sitting in a cool place rectifies the problem although it will take several hours.

This happened this morning, it probably sounds like my own fault and you’re right, it is. however, getting into a bath or lukewarm water and sitting in it for an hour or more isn’t exactly a nice thing. My initial thoughts were that it wouldn’t matter because by the time I got out the water would be cool so I’d be ok. Wrong… if it’s hot, my body goes into a strange mode, it feels nice when I’m in but I think the ability of the hemoglobin, a component of the red blood cells to transport oxygen (oxyhemoglobin) throughout my body is restricted, hence the weakness in my whole body not just my legs.

So another lesson learned and will not make the same mistake again.

What I want to make clear is that the effects I’m experiencing are unlikely to be the same for other MS patients.

Everyone is unique, yes there is a strong similarity within the MS community but not exactly the same.

A healthy organ such as a kidney will do the same job whoever’s body it’s in, it will filter blood, but how a body deals with it will differ from person to person and the same applies to every other organ in the body.

A very strong positive appears to be the sphingolin myelin harvested from the spinal cord of new zealand cow’s. This is the fifth day of taking 3 capsules, 2 i the morning and the other in the afternoon. The improved feelings are subtle, very subtle changes at this time, this surprises me because I didn’t expect anything so early on.

Little improvements in coordination, tying my shoelaces appears to be better, easier and more accurate. I feel that my recovery time has shortened after walking, but I’m not going to let myself get too excited just yet.

True cost of cheap food…

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Food, Health

By Dr. Mercola

America is as obese as it possibly can be, yet the government and media refuse to take responsibility for this tragic problem.  Although obesity rates among American preschoolers declined by 43 percent in the past decade, teenage and adult obesity are deplorable and show no signs of improvement.1

These findings were broadcast on all of the nation’s major news stations and in most major newspapers234 with many claiming “victory” in the fight against childhood obesity. While this all sounds like good news, I disagree with such proclamations.

The study, published in JAMA,5 found that obesity rates among two- to five-year olds dropped from 14 percent in 2003 to eight percent in 2012. The researchers suggest that decreased consumption of high-calorie drinks and higher rates of breast feeding might account for the decline.

No reduction in obesity rates was found among any other age group, however. And obesity rates for women over the age of 60 actually rose by about 21 percent. Eventually, nearly all Americans end up obese which contributes to a lifetime of chronic disease.

Americans Have Far from Conquered Obesity

One-third of American children and teens (aged two to 19), and more than two-thirds of adults are still either overweight or obese. One out of eight preschoolers is still in the obese category, along with 18 percent of kids aged six to 11—up from seven percent in 1980.6

From my perspective, we’re still FAR from being in a position to jump for joy or pat ourselves on the back. The study authors themselves concluded:

“Overall, there have been no significant changes in obesity prevalence in youth or adults between 2003-2004 and 2011-2012. Obesity prevalence remains high and thus it is important to continue surveillance.”

While it may sound promising that overall obesity rates have “stabilized,” what that REALLY means is that we have maxed out, we are as fat as we can possibly be as a nation, and show no signs of improvement.

Other statistics clearly show that Americans, including children, are sicker than ever, and it’s absolutely obvious that this is a direct result of corrupted federal policies and the junk food industry marketing to kids, getting them addicted to sugar as soon as possible with famous cartoon characters and flashy images.  Don’t be fooled by this latest PR stunt to make you think they’re finally getting something right.

The anti-obesity campaign is NOT working. And while some reporters have stated that the drop in obesity among toddlers is due to successful physical fitness programs, such as First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign (which launched in 2010), I fail to see this connection.

Improved breastfeeding rates are the most likely primary factor contributing to the decline seen in this age group (two- to five-year olds).  This is the one area I can appreciate, after decades of disastrous infant formula marketing to new moms, it appears we are finally acknowledging the critical value of breastfeeding.

According to the CDC,7 the percent of babies breastfeeding at six months increased from 35 percent in 2000 to 49 percent in 2010, and infants still breastfeeding at 12 months increased from 16 percent to 27 percent during that same time period.  While most infant formulas are about 50% carbohydrates, breast milk is naturally around 18%, which is the obvious problem that contributes to infant obesity.

Federal policies have not budged when it comes to issues that matter the most, or could have the greatest impact. Subsidizing the growing of genetically engineered (GE) corn, soy, and sugar beets continues to fuel the production of cheap, processed junk food that fatten us up and cause cascading health problems, courtesy of the insulin resistance such a diet brings.

Subsidizing the growing of GE soy and corn for hydrogenated vegetable oils is the primary source of clogged arteries leading to countless unnecessary heart attacks.

The combination of junk food manufacturers, pesticide producers’ agriculture lobbying, and the willingness of our federal politicians to be lobbied because of their greed for money and power has not changed one bit in the past decade. If anything, it’s only gotten more insidious.

New USDA Rule May Stop Soda and Junk Food Advertising in Schools

As a general rule, the beverage industry also still denies or strongly downplays its role in the childhood obesity epidemic, despite the fact that beverage companies spend over $1 billion annually on youth-targeted marketing—especially in school settings—and sodas have been repeatedly shown to massively promote obesity in study after study.

Hopefully, we’ll soon see a reduction in junk food advertising in schools at least. First Lady Michelle Obama recently announced a new US Department of Agriculture (USDA) rule that would phase out advertising of sugary drinks and junk food on school grounds.  Historically, the junk food industry always finds a way to buy their way back into schools as a desperately needed source of revenues. As reported by NBC News:8

“US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said the new rules would eliminate marketing for products that cannot be sold in schools. ‘If you can’t sell it, you ought not to be able to market it,’ Vilsack said. He said companies spend $149 million a year on marketing food and drinks to kids in school…

The Federal Trade Commission says the heaviest marketers are candy and snack food manufacturers, beverage companies, and fast food restaurants, which make use of posters and scoreboards. They also give students coupons, for instance offering pizza as a prize for students who read a certain number of books, and they place advertisements in school television programs and other educational materials. California banned sodas and junk food from public schools in 2005 and Connecticut did in 2006, but most states don’t have policies.”

True Cost Accounting—Understanding the Real Cost of Cheap Food

I was in the Philippines last month and over there fresh fruits and vegetables are inexpensive and processed junk food is costly. So there are strong economic incentives for them to eat healthy. However, the converse is present in the US. For some families, access to fruits and vegetables is very limited, forcing them to rely on the heavily subsidized processed foods at their local markets. Others realize they can get a value meal at numerous fast-food restaurants for far less money than it takes to purchase foods to cook from scratch. But all this cheap food comes with a hidden price tag.

The featured video discusses a number of principles associated with food, such as the principle of true cost accounting,9 which helps you understand the real cost of the food you buy. When you make purchasing decisions based solely on price, without asking why the food is so inexpensive, you’re actually supporting a long list of social and environmental ills that, ultimately, you still end up paying for in one way or another.

While Americans pay less for their weekly grocery bill than people in most other nations, the true cost of all this cheap food is staggering. Declining health and rising health care costs are two of the most obvious considerations. Parents need to wake up and face the reality that processed foods have dramatically changed over the years. The level of processing and chemical additives has increased exponentially, and today’s pre-packaged convenience foods have been processed and altered to the point of being virtually unrecognizable, nutritionally, from real food.

Processed food is typically NOT interchangeable with fresh whole food, no matter what it says on the bag. Unfortunately, many still do not know that the “natural” label is completely worthless, as foods bearing the “natural” label can still, legally, be chockfull of chemicals, additives, and genetically engineered ingredients.

Children Are Highly Susceptible to GMO Side Effects

In the US, parents also have to contend with the fact that a vast majority of this cheap food is genetically engineered and heavily contaminated with the toxic herbicides like glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup. Experts like Dr. Don Huber strongly believe that glyphosate is actually more toxic than DDT.

Compelling evidence now suggests that glyphosate residues, found in most commonly consumed foods in the Western diet courtesy of GE sugar, corn, soy, and wheat, enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins in the environment to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease. Glyphosate also severely disrupts your gut flora, thereby further exacerbating metabolic havoc and poor health. Children are clearly at greatest risk here. The sooner their gut flora becomes severely compromised, the sooner their health will begin to fail. If they’re fed GE foods from infancy, they may be facing serious health issues by the time they’re in their teens!

This is a valid concern, as genetically modified organisms (GMOs) can even be found in infant formulas, and no one really knows what the health risks of such ingredients might be, especially long-term. It’s important to remember that pound for pound, infants experience greater exposure to chemicals than adults, and have immature and porous blood-brain barriers, which allow greater chemical exposures to reach their developing brains. Hence, an all-organic diet is really crucial for infants and young children.

Breastfeeding is clearly the best option. Besides lacking the full arsenal of critical nutrients obtained from breast milk, many infant formulas also contain far too much sugar (your baby doesn’t need any). But it’s not just a matter of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fats that makes breast milk far superior to formula. Breast milk also contains substances that may significantly enhance your baby’s gut and support the healthy development of her entire nervous system.

Teach Your Kids the Basic Tenets of Optimal Health

Do not make the mistake of underestimating the power of your influence as a parent when it comes to laying down potentially lifelong habits. Leading by example is one of the most effective teaching tools there is. Children will simply not know which foods are healthy unless you, as a parent, teach it to them.

Remember, wholesome food is “live” and typically raw food, and the hallmark of live food is the fact that it will wilt and decompose. The fact that fast food burgers, buns, and fries show no signs of decomposing, even after a decade, is a clear indication that it’s not real food and serves no beneficial purpose as part of your child’s diet.

If you’re unsure about how to get your family on the right track, my optimized nutrition plan offers a step-by-step guide to feeding your family right. You can find even more help in the book I wrote on the subject, called Generation XL: Raising Healthy, Intelligent Kids in a High-Tech, Junk-Food World. As a quick overview, here are some of the most important lifestyle strategies you can teach your child that will serve him or her well for the rest of their life:

    1. Proper food choices: For a comprehensive guide, see my free optimized nutrition plan. Generally speaking though, you’ll want to focus your diet on whole, ideally organic, unprocessed or minimally processed foods. For the best nutrition and health benefits, you will want to eat a good portion of your food raw.

Avoid processed sugar, and refined fructose in particular. All forms of sugar have toxic effects when consumed in excess, and drive multiple disease processes in your body, not the least of which is insulin resistance, a major cause of chronic disease and accelerated aging. I believe the two primary keys for successful weight management are severely restricting carbohydrates (sugars, fructose, and grains) in your diet, and increasing healthy fat consumption. This will optimize insulin and leptin levels, which is key for maintaining a healthy weight and optimal health. Sources of healthy fats include:

Olives and olive oil Coconuts and coconut oil Butter made from raw grass-fed organic milk
Raw nuts, particularly macadamia Organic pastured egg yolks Avocados
Grass-fed meats Palm oil Unheated organic nut oils

    1. Regular exercise: Even if you’re eating the healthiest diet in the world, you still need to exercise to reach the highest levels of health, and you need to be exercising effectively, which means including high-intensity activities into your rotation. High-intensity interval-type training boosts human growth hormone (HGH) production, which is essential for optimal health, strength and vigor. HGH also helps boost weight loss.

So along with core-strengthening exercises, strength training, and stretching, I highly recommend that two to three times a week you do Peak Fitness exercises, which raise your heart rate up to your anaerobic threshold for 20 to 30 seconds, followed by a 90-second recovery period.

    1. Stress reduction: Your emotional state plays a role in nearly every physical disease — from heart disease and depression, to arthritis and cancer. Meditation, prayer, social support, and exercise are all viable options that can help you maintain emotional and mental equilibrium. I also strongly believe in using simple tools such as the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) to address deeper, oftentimes hidden, emotional problems.
    2. Drink plenty of clean pure water.
    3. Maintain a healthy gut: About 80 percent of your immune system resides in your gut, and research is stacking up showing that probiotics—beneficial bacteria—affect your health in a myriad of ways; it can even influence your ability to lose weight. A healthy diet is the ideal way to maintain a healthy gut, and regularly consuming traditionally fermented foods is the easiest, most cost effective way to ensure optimal gut flora.
    4. Optimize your vitamin D levels: Research has shown that increasing your vitamin D levels can reduce your risk of death from ALL causes. Sun exposure is the best way to optimize your vitamin D levels as your body has built-in “fail-safe” mechanisms that prevent detrimental side effects from occurring. For more information on how to safely and effectively optimize your vitamin D levels, please see my previous article, “How Vitamin D Performance Testing Can Help You Optimize Your Health.”

If you opt for oral vitamin D supplements, make sure you use D3, not prescription D2, as the latter may do more harm than good. Also, if you take supplemental vitamin D, you’re creating an increased demand for K2—not K1 that is typically in vegetables as it will not work synergize with vitamin D. Vitamin K2 deficiency is actually what produces the symptoms of vitamin D toxicity, which includes inappropriate calcification that can lead to hardening of your arteries. Together, vitamin D and K2 help strengthen your bones and improve your heart health.

  1. Avoid as many chemicals, toxins, and pollutants as possible: This includes tossing out your toxic household cleaners, soaps, personal hygiene products, air fresheners, bug sprays, lawn pesticides, and insecticides, just to name a few, and replacing them with non-toxic alternatives.
  2. Get plenty of high-quality sleep: Regularly catching only a few hours of sleep can hinder metabolism and hormone production in a way that is similar to the effects of aging and the early stages of diabetes. Chronic sleep loss may speed the onset or increase the severity of age-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and memory loss.

More Tips for Creating a Healthy Eating Environment for Kids

Ultimately, teaching your child the importance of healthy foods and exercise is the key to maintaining health. With that in mind, here are a few more tips to foster a healthy view of food and self-esteem in your child:

  • Lead by example and seek to maintain optimal body weight for yourself and your spouse
  • Refrain from making jokes about your child’s weight, even if no harm is intended
  • Explain the health risks of being overweight to your child, but avoid comparing your overweight child to other children, including thinner siblings
  • Cook healthy meals for your family, and let your child be involved in making dinner, but avoid making your child eat different food than the rest of the family
  • Encourage your child to make healthy food choices and praise them when they do instead of putting your child down about weight or eating habits
  • Instead of using food as a reward or punishment, have healthy snacks available at all times, and explain to your child the benefits they’ll get from eating these fresh, whole foods; use non-food items, such as stickers or special outings/activities as rewards instead

Against all odds..

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

The ongoing challenge of not just coping with the everyday symptoms of MS but genuinely trying to find a way to beat this debilitating disease is difficult to say the least. It’s not just like a job I have to do everyday searching for a way to ease the pain and make it more comfortable to exist but in some ways it’s like working for a very demanding boss. I can just imagine the look on your face now thinking what the heck is he talking about.

Well my demanding unsympathetic boss has given me a deadline to work to, he’s saying, “find a damn cure, or you’re out on your ear”. Well not exactly but as it’s only me living in my body that has this so-called incurable disease I know I have a limited amount of time  before I’m not able to do things for myself.

I actually enjoy working like this because deep down I truly believe I will win, I will find a way. There was a song written and sung by Phil Collins for a movie with Jeff Bridges and Rachel Ward called “Against all odds”…. This is my song, or at least that’s how I feel.

So, enough of the sloppy stuff, getting back to reality.

My mornings start as I’ve previously said around 7.00 am when I soak for an hour or so in a not too hot bath with Magnesium Chloride or Himalayan Crystal Salt. Today was Mag Chloride. After about 40 minutes it was almost as if a switch had been flicked on, there was a strange but really nice feeling spreading through my legs right down to my toes. I sort of felt as if the blood had started flowing into my feet again, or my left leg to be accurate.

Getting out the bath has been interesting and humorous in some ways, I sometimes manage it not easily, but without slipping back in and splashing a gallon or two out of the bath. But this morning it was positively up and out then sitting at the back of the bath, I had a shocked but very pleasantly surprised smile on my face.

So when something positive happens I have to spend time mulling over whether the improvements or bad things were due to something I’d done or taken recently or is this down to a combination of things over the weeks and months.

At this time I’m telling myself it’s a combination of the detox baths and the various supplements I take. I’m trying to not get too excited thinking it could be the product that arrived and I started taking yesterday.

I mentioned something called Sphingolin Myelin Basic Product harvested from New Zealand cows. Without getting into a complex explanation and description I’ll just say that Myelin is what surrounds the nerves in the brain. This insulating tape like substance has been broken down in my body.

What I’m taking now, will I hope naturally replace the myelin sheath which could well enable me to live a life.

Wheat – A Bane of the Modern Diet..

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Food, Health

By Dr. Mercola

Three decades ago, the food available was mostly fresh and grown locally. Today, the majority of foods served, whether at home, in school or in restaurants, are highly processed foods, filled with sugars, harmful processed fats, and chemical additives.

During that same time, obesity rates have skyrocketed, and one in five American deaths are now associated with obesity. Obesity-related deaths include those from type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, liver disease, cancer, dementia, and depression, as nearly all have metabolic dysfunction as a common underlying factor.

The featured1 article contains 11 telling charts and graphs, illustrating how the modern diet has led to an avalanche of chronic disease. As its author, Kris Gunnars says:

“The modern diet is the main reason why people all over the world are fatter and sicker than ever before. Everywhere modern processed foods go, chronic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease soon follow.”

Sugar Consumption, Especially Soda and Juices, Drives Disease Rates

Of all the dietary culprits out there, refined sugar in general, and processed fructose in particular, win top billing as the greatest destroyers of health. The amount of refined sugar in the modern diet has ballooned, with the average American now getting about 350 calories a day (equivalent to about 22 teaspoons of sugar and 25 percent of their daily calories) from added sugar.

This level of sugar consumption has definitive health consequences. One recent study published in the peer-reviewed journal JAMA Internal Medicine,2 which examined the associations between added sugar consumption and cardiovascular disease (CVD) deaths, found that:

  • Among American adults, the mean percentage of daily calories from added sugar was 14.9 percent in 2005-2010
  • Most adults (just over 71 percent) get 10 percent or more of their daily calories from added sugar
  • Approximately 10 percent of American adults got 25 percent or more of their daily calories from added sugar in 2005-2010
  • The most common sources of added sugar are sugar-sweetened beverages, grain-based desserts, fruit drinks, dairy desserts, and candy

According to this study, those who consume 21 percent or more of their daily calories in the form of sugar are TWICE as likely to die from heart disease compared to those who get seven percent or less or their daily calories from added sugar.

Needless to say, with all this added sugar in the diet, average calorie consumption has skyrocketed as well, having increased by about 20 percent since 1970.

A primary source of all this added sugar is soda, fruit juices, and other sweetened drinks. Multiple studies have confirmed that these kinds of beverages dramatically increase your risk of metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and mortality. Diet sodas or artificially sweetened foods and beverages are no better, as research reveals they appear to do even MORE harm than refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), including causing greater weight gain.

Abandoning Traditional Fats for Processed Vegetable Oils Has Led to Declining Health

Fats help your body absorb important vitamins, including vitamins A, D, and E, and fats are especially important for infants and toddlers for proper growth and development. Moreover, when your body burns non-vegetable carbohydrates like grains and sugars, powerful adverse hormonal changes typically occur. These detrimental changes do not occur when you consume healthy fats or fibrous vegetables.

As explained by Dr. Robert Lustig, fructose in particular is “isocaloric but not isometabolic,” which means you can have the same amount of calories from fructose or glucose, fructose and protein, or fructose and fat, but the metabolic effect will be entirely different despite the identical calorie count. Furthermore, saturated fats, although supplying more calories, will NOT actually cause you to get fat, nor will it promote heart disease.

Unfortunately, the healthiest fats, including animal fats and coconut oil, both of which are saturated, have been long portrayed as a heart attack waiting to happen. Meanwhile, harmful hydrogenated vegetable oils such as corn and canola oil have been touted as “healthful” alternatives. Ditto for margarine.

Boy, did they get this wrong. Nothing could have been further from the truth. The hydrogenation process creates incredibly harmful trans fats, which the US Food and Drug Administration is now finally considering banning altogether. (I’ll review the health hazards of trans fats in further detail below.) Clearly, switching from lard and grass-fed butter—which contains heart-protective nutrients—to margarine and other trans-fat rich hydrogenated oils was a public health experiment that has not ended well.

Low-Fat Fad Has Done Unfathomable Harm

Conventional recommendations have also called for dramatically decreasing the overall amount of fat in your diet, and this fat aversion is yet another driving factor of metabolic disease and chronic ill health. As I and other nutritional experts have warned, most people (especially if you’re insulin or leptin resistant, which encompasses about 80 percent of Americans) probably need upwards of 50-85 percent of daily calories from healthful fats. This is a FAR cry from the less than 10 percent of calories from saturated fats recommended by the US Department of Agriculture.3 As stated in the featured article:

“The first dietary guidelines for Americans were published in the year 1977, almost at the exact same time the obesity epidemic started. Of course, this doesn’t prove anything (correlation does not equal causation), but it makes sense that this could be more than just a mere coincidence.

The anti-fat message essentially put the blame on saturated fat and cholesterol (harmless), while giving sugar and refined carbs (very unhealthy) a free pass. Since the guidelines were published, many massive studies have been conducted on the low-fat diet. It is no better at preventing heart disease, obesity or cancer than the standard Western diet, which is as unhealthy as a diet can get.”

There’s no telling how many have been prematurely killed by following these flawed low-fat guidelines, yet despite mounting research refuting the value of cutting out fats, such recommendations are still being pushed.

Increased Vegetable Oil Consumption Has Altered Americans’ Fatty Acid Composition

The increased consumption of processed vegetable oils has also led to a severely lopsided fatty acid composition, as these oils provide high amounts of omega-6 fats. The ideal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fats is 1:1, but the typical Western diet is between 1:20 and 1:50. Eating too much damaged omega-6 fat and too little omega-3 sets the stage for the very health problems you seek to avoid, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, depression and Alzheimer’s, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes, just to name a few. To correct this imbalance, you typically need to do two things:

  1. Significantly decrease omega-6 by avoiding processed foods and foods cooked at high temperatures using vegetable oils
  2. Increase your intake of heart-healthy animal-based omega-3 fats, such as krill oil

The Dangers of Hydrogenated Soybean Oil

About 95 percent of soy is genetically engineered to have resistance to glyphosate and is loaded with this highly toxic herbicide. But even if you have organic soy, most of it is hydrogenated. Hydrogenated soybean oil has, like sugar, become a major source of calories in the US diet. Americans consume more than 28 billion pounds of edible oils annually, and soybean oil accounts for about 65 percent of it. About half of it is hydrogenated, as soybean oil is too unstable otherwise to be used in food manufacturing. In 1999, soybean oil accounted for seven percent of consumed daily calories in the US.

Part of the problem with partially hydrogenated soybean oil is the trans fat it contains. The other part relates to the health hazards of soy itself. An added hazard factor is the fact that the majority of soybeans are genetically engineered. The completely unnatural fats created through the partial hydrogenation process cause dysfunction and chaos in your body on a cellular level, and studies have linked trans-fats to:

Cancer, by interfering with enzymes your body uses to fight cancer Chronic health problems such as obesity, asthma, auto-immune disease, cancer, and bone degeneration
Diabetes, by interfering with the insulin receptors in your cell membranes Heart disease, by clogging your arteries (Among women with underlying coronary heart disease, eating trans-fats increased the risk of sudden cardiac arrest three-fold!)
Decreased immune function, by reducing your immune response Increase blood levels of low density lipoprotein (LDL), or “bad” cholesterol, while lowering levels of high density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good” cholesterol
Reproductive problems, by interfering with enzymes needed to produce sex hormones Interfering with your body’s use of beneficial omega-3 fats

Besides the health hazards related to the trans fats, soybean oil is, in and of itself, NOT a healthy oil. Add to that the fact that the majority of soybeans grown in the US are genetically engineered, which may have additional health consequences. When taken together, partially hydrogenated GE soybean oil becomes one of the absolute worst types of oils you can consume. Unfortunately, as stated in the featured article:4

“[M]ost people don’t have a clue they’re eating this much soybean oil. They’re actually getting most of it from processed foods, which often have soybean oil added to them because it is cheap. The best way to avoid soybean oil (and other nasty ingredients) is to avoid processed foods.”

Wheat – A Bane of the Modern Diet

Modern wheat is not the same kind of wheat your grandparents ate. The nutritional content of this staple grain has been dramatically altered over the years and is now far less nutritious than the varieties of generations past. As Gunnars states:5

“Modern dwarf wheat was introduced around the year 1960, which contains 19-28 percent less of important minerals like Magnesium, Iron, Zinc, and Copper. There is also evidence that modern wheat is much more harmful to celiac patients and people with gluten sensitivity, compared to older breeds like Einkorn wheat. Whereas wheat may have been relatively healthy back in the day, the same is not true of modern dwarf wheat.”

Wheat lectin, or “wheat germ agglutinin” (WGA), is largely responsible for many of wheat’s pervasive ill effects. WGA is highest in whole wheat, especially sprouted whole wheat, but wheat isn’t the only grain with significant lectin. All seeds of the grass family (rice, wheat, spelt, rye, etc.) are high in lectins. WGA has the potential to damage your health by the following mechanisms (list is not all-inclusive):

Pro-Inflammatory: WGA lectin stimulates the synthesis of pro-inflammatory chemical messengers, even at very small concentrations Neurotoxic: WGA lectin can pass through your blood-brain barrier and attach to the protective coating on your nerves, known as the myelin sheath. It is also capable of inhibiting nerve growth factor, which is important for the growth, maintenance, and survival of certain neurons
Immunotoxic: WGA lectin may bind to and activate white blood cells Cardiotoxic: WGA lectin induces platelet aggregation and has a potent disruptive effect on tissue regeneration and removal of neutrophils from your blood vessels
Cytotoxic (toxic to cells): WGA lectin may induce programmed cell death (apoptosis) Research also shows that WGA maydisrupt endocrine and gastrointestinal function, interfere with genetic expression, and share similarities with certain viruses

Flawed Assumptions About Eggs Have Worsened Health

According to USDA data, Americans ate more than 375 eggs per person per year, on average, in 1950. Egg consumption dipped to just over 225 eggs per capita between 1995 and 2000, and as of 2007, it was just over 250 eggs per capita per year—a 33 percent decline since 1950.

Like saturated fats, many naturally cholesterol-rich foods have also been wrongfully vilified. Eggs, which are actually among the most nutritious foods you can eat (provided they come from organically raised, pastured hens) have long been accused of causing heart disease simply because they’re high in cholesterol. But dietary cholesterol has little to do with the cholesterol level in your body, and numerous studies have confirmed that eating eggs does NOT raise potentially adverse LDL cholesterol in your blood. Studies have also failed to find any evidence that eggs contribute to heart disease.

Testing6 has confirmed that true free-range eggs are far more nutritious than commercially raised eggs. The dramatically superior nutrient levels are most likely the result of the differences in diet between free-ranging, pastured hens and commercially farmed hens. In a 2007 egg-testing project, Mother Earth News compared the official U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrient data for commercial eggs with eggs from hens raised on pasture, and found that the latter typically contains:

  • 2/3 more vitamin A
  • Two times more omega-3 fatty acids
  • Three times more vitamin E
  • Seven times more beta-carotene

Barring organic certification, which is cost-prohibitive for many small farmers, you could just make sure the farmer raises his chickens according to organic, free-range standards, allowing his flock to forage freely for their natural diet, and aren’t fed antibiotics, corn, and soy.

You can tell the eggs are free range or pastured by the color of the egg yolk. Foraged hens produce eggs with bright orange yolks. Dull, pale yellow yolks are a sure sign you’re getting eggs from caged hens that are not allowed to forage for their natural diet. Cornucopia.org offers a helpful organic egg scorecard that rates egg manufacturers based on 22 criteria that are important for organic consumers. According to Cornucopia, their report “showcases ethical family farms, and their brands, and exposes factory farm producers and brands in grocery store coolers that threaten to take over organic livestock agriculture.”

People Eat More Processed Food Than Ever Before

Overall, about 90 percent of the money Americans spend on food is spent on processed foods.7 This includes restaurant foods (i.e. food away from home) and processed grocery foods that require little or no preparation time before consuming at home.

When looking at the ratio of money spent on store-bought groceries only, Americans spend nearly a fourth of their grocery money on processed foods and sweets—twice as much as they did in 1982—according to Department of Labor statistics.8 Pricing of meats, sugar, and flour has had a great influence our spending habits. These items have actually seen a decrease in price per pound, which has had an inverse effect on Americans’ spending habits, in that cheaper prices encourage people to buy more.

The result is obvious. Compared with shoppers 30 years ago, American adults today are twice as likely to be obese, and children and adolescent three times as likely to be overweight. Pediatric type 2 diabetes—which used to be very rare—has markedly increased along with the rise in early childhood obesity. According to previous research, early onset type 2 diabetes appears to be a more aggressive disease from a cardiovascular standpoint.9

Take Control of Your Health

Research coming out of some of America’s most respected institutions now confirms that sugar is a primary dietary factor driving chronic disease development. Sugar, and fructose in particular, has been implicated as a culprit in the development of both heart disease and cancer, and having this information puts you in the driver’s seat when it comes to prevention. A diet that promotes health is high in healthful fats and very, very low in sugar and non-vegetable carbohydrates.

Understand that excessive sugar/fructose consumption leads to insulin resistance, and insulin resistance appears to be the root of many if not most chronic disease. So far, scientific studies have linked excessive fructose consumption to about 78 different diseases and health problems,10 including heart disease and cancer.

Many also eat far too little healthy fat, and the combination of too much sugar and too little fat is driving disease rates through the roof. Healthy foods…

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

Ive always considered myself as health conscious even when I was in my 20’s, I did go out for a beer or two with a  friend or my favorite brother, but I knew about supplementing my diet with vitamins and nutrients. However, what I knew then compared to what I know now is like the difference between chalk and cheese.

I think like most people in the western world our opinions are dramatically influenced by the plethora of advertising that constantly bombards our senses either from billboards, magazine’s radio and of course the daddy of them all TV.

Over the past 7 years especially during my time with Dr.Huggins in Colorado my whole mindset changed, I realised that the majority of foods sold in supermarkets  have been through a process, this is widely known as refining in preparation for human consumption. what is really happening  is that it’s basically making it more profitable by denaturing it and combining it with less nutritious components, not food.

Flour for instance has been bleached removing 90% of the nutrition and ensuring it can live in your cupboards for month’s. Cereals in general are advertised and promoted as healthy for kids, when in reality they are as nutritious as the box it came in and worse because they are laden with sugar the most TOXIC foodstuff known to man.

This makes it very difficult to buy food that’s actually healthy, there was a time when food was natural… now it’s synthetic or at least synthetically modified or made from GMO grains. The genetically modified organisms have been altered in the laboratory so that its bigger, uniform in shape and composition and…and with a built-in insect repellant. So what do you think it does to humans? hmmm.

It’s sad to think that there was a time when all food was natural and most people were healthy, kids played out in the streets not in their bedroom, in the dark on their Xbox or pc or smartphone texting.

Life as we know it hasn’t progressed in a positive way, it’s moved into a different paradigm of plastic food and electronic unsociable games, where food has little or no nutrition. Where it’s acceptable to be sick and to take a pill or in the US to take a handful of pills.

Statistically the population of the western world is unhealthier and heavier than at anytime in “mans” existence, and the saddest thing is that we have accepted it without question.

A common statement is that someone will say that a parent died of cancer or some other incurable disease and then say that it wouldn’t surprise them if they also died of it declaring its hereditary.

It’s not hereditary, it isn’t contracted by coming into contact with someone or swapping bodily fluids. We all have cancer cells in our body, it develops and grows by putting the wrong food (plastic, synthesized  and sugar) in our body.

I’m not declaring that I know everything, I’m not saying I know how to cure cancer and please accept my apologies if you’ve lost someone to that hideous disease. What I am saying is that being natural, eating natural unprocessed foods and avoiding sugar will help you and your kids to live a healthy life.

An amalgamation of dissimilar metals..

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

Silver fillings or to be accurate, silver coloured fillings were in the majority of fillings placed in most people’s teeth around the world. But over the last 5 to 10 years quite a few have been replaced by white or resin fillings. Some have been done because the person didn’t like the colour which was almost black now and a small percentage of replacements were done when knowledge of the dangers were known.

There is only one safe way of doing this and that is not by an IAOMT or biological dentist, who know part of the process to do this safely but are not familiar with the most crucial part which is sequential removal. Dentist’s in general either don’t know or don’t believe sequential removal is necessary.

To this day there are still millions of amalgam fillings every year being placed into the teeth of unsuspecting people in the US alone, even though the rest of the world or at least Europe has outlawed these killers. I’m not being overly dramatic when I describe them as killers because long term that’s just what they are.

An Amalgam filling is an amalgamation of dissimilar metals; prior to 1976 they consisted of 52% mercury, zinc, copper, tin and maybe 8-10% silver. So when the dentist tells you he is going to put a silver filling in your tooth/teeth quite frankly it’s a blatant lie…Its mercury primarily. Mercury is the most toxic non radioactive substance on earth; it gets worse because every time you brush your teeth, drink hot drinks or chew you stimulate the release of methyl mercury which is 100 times more toxic.

After 1976 the filling was “updated or upgraded” to the high copper amalgam filling, this is equal parts of mercury, copper and silver. Even though there is less mercury it stimulates the release of methyl mercury 50 times faster than the original.

The most sensitive parts of your body are the insides of your cheeks and under your tongue, so you can imagine where the elemental mercury goes…..yes into your body and your blood stream.

The blood consists of red and white cells; the white is essentially your immune system, its primary role is to protect you from invaders.

The red is broken down into roughly 30 components; one of which is hemoglobin which has 4 ports on each cell to carry oxygen….oxyhemeglobin.

Mercury attaches to one, two, three or even all four ports so is now transported around your body, it doesn’t want to wander aimlessly, it wants to find somewhere nice to live, like a filter organ, your liver, kidneys, heart or brain. Once resident there it will prevent the organ from doing its job efficiently and “hey presto you have symptoms”.

I have always found it quite ridiculous to think that the wonderful trusted community of general practitioners (GP’s) insists on treating symptoms and not the cause of the problem. So you see your doctor, are then told to take a medicine/drug and the chances are, you will be on medication for the rest of your life…nice.

In 2008/9 a school in Lakewood, Colorado was closed and 600 pupils were sent home, why, you ask, well there had been a spillage of a hazardous material so the HAZMAT team were called in. Now I’m sure you are thinking that there had been a large amount of a radioactive material spilled, well you would be right in thinking that way. In fact it was a mercury thermometer that had been broken.

Now if 600 kids were sent home because a very minimal amount of mercury was spilled on the floor why oh why is it considered safe to allow larger amount as an amalgam filling to be placed into uninformed, unsuspecting people? Thousands of times every day of the year.

This is interesting, did you know that the ADA actually holds the patent on amalgam fillings, so those wonderful, considerate people are actually being paid every time an amalgam is placed. It’s no wonder they refuse to acknowledge the dangers in these hideous little killers. When it’s eventually accepted worldwide that amalgams are killing people and the ADA have always known this then there will be an even bigger lawsuit than there was with the tobacco industry.

Let’s move back to amalgam fillings, because of the amalgamation of dissimilar metals, your saliva and the warm environment of your mouth, these fillings have all the basic requirements to be little batteries. They emit a signal, an electrical signal, negative or positive, high or low. Perhaps fillings could be better described electrically by calling them capacitors. Capacitors, like the flash portion of a flash camera, build up a charge over a period of time, and then discharge much of their stored current in an instant This is measured in micro amps’; having an electrical signal requires them to be removed in a very specific sequence. There is only one way of identifying that signal and that is to use a RITA meter, this device that was created by Dr. Huggins. It’s similar to an ammeter or amalgameter but there is very significant difference and that is the RITA meter measures the peak of the signal and stays at that point. This is crucial because the fillings need to be removed sequentially, starting with the highest negative; after that one has been removed the remainder of fillings in that quadrant can be removed.

Now it becomes a little confusing as the remaining fillings starting with the next highest negative are to be removed following the guide in the previous paragraph.

However, the dentist needs to check all the fillings in the mouth; they are marked on a chart by his assistant. If, after the first quadrant has been done the next highest negative filling is on the other side of the head crossing the midline, draw an imaginary line down your head splitting your eyes, down your nose and thru your lips, then there has to be a 48hr gap between removals unless the dentist is using Conscious sedation. The most popular or commonly used is Versed which is similar to Valium. If conscious sedation is used then after the first highest negative filling is replaced the sequence doesn’t apply.

When Dr. Huggins noted this several decades ago he found that if this protocol is not adhered to, then 63% of patients develop an autoimmune disease, not necessarily immediately but it is likely to happen at some point.

There is almost a conspiracy here between the dentists that have done the honest research and found that Huggins work is real, and the powers that be like the American Dental Association (ADA) plus their cronies like Device Watch or Quack watch. These people will spread malicious misinformation about the pioneering work of Dr. Huggins and Dr. Weston Price before him. I have spoken with my clients and uninformed dentists who truly believe there is nothing wrong with an amalgam filling. This is because of the misinformation being spread by the ADA…

I’m sure you’ll be thinking “I’ll just go and see my local holistic or biological dentist, because he or she will do it right” well the sad thing is that NO, they won’t. There are lots and lots of very competent, experienced dentists, some biological, some holistic and they will tell you that they are very experienced in the removal of amalgam fillings. They have done it thousands of times, “so just come see me and I will take care of you”.

Again I can’t emphasize this strongly enough, biological, holistic, means nothing when it comes to the only safe methods of removing and replacing amalgams.

A Rita meter should be used to identify the correct sequence of removal; the dentist should use a rubber dam, oxygen, water, powerful suction and a Negative Ion Generator to ensure a clear channel over the dental chair. Some dentists will also use some form of suction device to clear the air immediately around the patient.

I’d like to ask this of the dentist’s that profess to be able to competently remove amalgams, “when you’ve removed the amalgams the wrong way, do any of the patients ever come back in six months or a year and tell you they now have MS or one of the other incurable diseases.” No, they don’t because the patient didn’t realize it was the dentistry that caused the problem, dentist’s are living in a dream world, I believe that the pharmaceutical industry are responsible for the millions of people suffering from ill health these days however I also believe the dentist’s are guilty and in some ways even more so.

There is only one safe way to remove amalgams, and that is to follow the protocol laid out by Dr. Huggins as listed above, over the years I have talked with thousands of clients all stating that they had had their amalgams removed the correct way. Most, not all but most would tell me that they had seen a Huggins trained dentist, to which I would ask for the name of the dentist and the city or state they were in. Some people wouldn’t tell me the name, why, I just don’t know; maybe they thought they would get the dentist into trouble.

For those that did tell me the name, it would often be a name I’d never heard before, what their dentist probably meant was that they attended a two hour seminar and shook Dr. Huggins hand, so in their mind they had been trained. The client would try to justify the dentist’s work, this I just couldn’t understand because the client would be suffering from health problems and often serious health problems which are likely to have been caused or at least instigated by dentistry.

Dr. Huggins holds trainings twice each year or at least he did, this would be a three day training program held in Colorado Springs, normally in March and October although that could vary by a month either side depending on when the IAOMT were holding their semi annual seminars. My recommendation is to find a Huggins trained dentist, this can be done by calling Huggins Applied healing on 1 866 948 4638.

I have written a short ebook which can be purchased for £1.99 on Amazon, if you go to Amazon and write my name Stefan Cairns in the search box you’ll see my book entitled Dentistry and how it’s damaging your health.

At the end of this book I have listed the dentists that were considered to be an elite group of Huggins trained dentists including the city and phone numbers.

One particular dentist is in my opinion stands head and shoulders above the others; this is because of her experience and unequalled skills. Dr. Blanche Grube has followed Dr. Huggins work closer than anyone else for twenty years.

Her passion, compassion, skills, experience and dedication surpass all others, I will not go into detail about a health challenge she experienced because I feel it best coming from her. Needless to say she has been there, done that and has the T-shirt and video when it comes to health issues.

Know me…

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Health

I was very lucky today as I had a visit from my beautiful mother and sister Suzie, it was fantastic to see them again, we chatted for a couple of hours which got me thinking about how other people think about me. It doesn’t bother me or affect me in any way whatsoever but it did make me think about it.

Most of my Facebook friends know I have MS but I seriously doubt they know what it’s like, so I thought I’d try to put into words what it’s like to have this.

Firstly what I’ve been told  by the medical professional’s is not what I think when trying to survive each day.

OK MS is Multiple Sclerosis and is considered a life threatening incurable disease. What “they” say is that my immune system is confused and it’s trying to defend itself from an invader in my head. So it attack’s itself (hence autoimmune disease)or at least attack’s the nerves surrounding the brain. By doing this it breaks down the myelin sheath around the nerves, the sheath is essentially like insulating tape around an extremely complex wiring system.

Every time I subconsciously want to move, the unsheathed nerves are in contact with other unsheathed nerves and they sort of fuse out resulting in limbs not working. Over the past 17 years this has caused lots of problems from mishaps with my bladder to falling quite heavily.

I am now very lucky and am so grateful to be living in a small flat (apartment for my US friends), so getting around here is a lot easier than when I lived in Colorado.

Daily life…

Getting up and ready for my day is quite challenging, after about an hour of standing at the sink and preparing my breakfast in the kitchen completely wears me out. My legs are like jelly and my coordination cutting up fruit etc leaves me so tired I feel as I used to after a 25 mile mountain bike ride in The Lakes.

Every time I stand it feels as if I’ve a 20 stone (280lb) man on my back so just going to the loo (toilet) is difficult. And this is made worse because I have to do this at least 20 times a day.

I’m in constant pain throughout my body, my legs ache permanently and the arthritis in my knees doesn’t help, but I’m alive which I didn’t want to be 15 months ago.

Food..

I’m gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant and I’m hypoglycemic. this isn’t something I tell myself I am, it’s what my body tells me. It does this with symptoms. I eat something with gluten in and within an hour I can’t stand let alone walk with the 20 stone guy on my back.

I’ve mentioned several times in my blog that the worst natural food you can put in your body is sugar. Sugar for me is a killer, I look at ingredient labels before I buy or eat food, but occasionally I make the mistake of thinking a small bite will be ok. Big mistake because any more the 10 grams in a day puts me on my back. and when my bladder that gives me a one minute warning, its one minute irrespective of where I am.

I have to drink about 3 litres of water each day adding to the problem of getting up and going to the loo with the big guy on my back and my arthritic knees.

Just writing this article has made my hands seize up and i’ve had to go three times so far.

So please don’t judge me until you’ve walked a mile in my shoes.
